Stable Cable Cap

For Daughter Who Doesn't Knit
Pattern:  Snappy Hat by Corinna Ferguson

Yarn:  1 Skein of Araucania Coliumo Solid
US Needle Size 10 1/2

I bought this yarn on sale $11.00!  I cast on, knit the brim and all the cable rows during an evening of Masterpiece Theatre. I would have finished it that night but I wanted my daughter to try it on before I started decreasing. Decreasing was fun and it created a pretty pattern.

The hat makes quite a first impression in this shade of pink! The chunky cables stretch which enhances the hand dyed yarn. The fit is great! The ribbing ends just below my daughter's ear lobes. It will keep her warm when the cold wind blows.

This has been an easy, fast and rewarding project!

Summer Seahorse Shift on Short Sands

The Two Summer Dress

I knit the bodice in a day but dragged on sewing the skirt.  I finished the dress just in time (literally)  for my granddaughter to wear on "The Maine" bound for Perkins Cove.

The photos are taken on Short Sands after our few hours at Perkin's Cove.  The knitted straps stretched by at least an inch so I'm glad I knit them short with a fuller bodice.

BGITWWW loves seahorses so this fabric was a perfect choice.  The maxi length  transformed her little girl walk into a regal glide and her little straw purse and silver gladiator sandals made her feel quite grown up.  (Note: Gladiators were quickly exchanged for flip flops as soon as we arrived back at the inn).

A Shift for the Ocean

After doing my taxes last night I had to find something easy but fun to do.  I came across The Two Summer Sundress by Natalie Larson.  The bodice is hand-knit and the body of the dress is fabric and will be a wonderful summer dress for the BGITWWW.

For the bodice I am using Spud and Chloe Sweater.  It's leftover yarn from the Swing Coat which still looks fabulous and will be a great cover up for this dress when the ocean breeze is not agreeable.

The main part of the bodice is knit and all that remains to finish are the straps and attach buttons.  Please note I knit two stitches in before each decrease.  This left a neat and decorative edge.

The bodice has been soaked, rolled into a towel, unrolled, gently shaped and left to dry in the fresh air.  The straps are left on a stitch holder until I can check the length on my granddaughter.

A neat and decorative edge.

For the body of the dress I am using one yard of cotton fabric designed by Mo Bedell purchased from Hawthorne Threads. This is “Patchwork in Light Pink” from the Full Moon Lagoon.  I chose this for the Seahorses.  100% whimsy.

Little Arrowhead

Little Arrowhead Shawl

I started this project almost two years ago and recently found it in a file drawer.   I lost interest in knitting a shawl but I like my projects finished so I bound it off.  It is a perfect kerchief and scarf.  The silver sparkle in the yarn is appreciated by the BGITWWW who can wear this as a cape when she plays dress-up.

I See More Red

Daughter-who-doesn't-knit likes cables.   I sent her the link to this pattern and her reply was "I love it."

Debbie Bliss Cabled Scarf
Debbie Bliss Magazine Fall/Winter 2012
9.75 x 94.5" and 1 lb. 6 oz.

Modelled by BGITWWW ...Best Granddaughter In The Whole Wide/wild World..

"Ah Nan, it's really warm but it's getting heavy.
Nan, Nan nee...it's getting really heavy.

4 skeins into the pattern.  9 to go.

I was half way through my 13th skein when I measured out 94.5" without stretching the fabric.  The scarf was soaked, rinsed, and squeezed.  My hands kept coming up with short red fuzz! The fabric stretched to an unmanageable length so I rolled it up into a high thread count cotton sheet. The sheet had the length I needed and it sucked up water quickly.

The next day I unrolled it from the sheet, placed it on top of a thick lining on the floor. Several hours later I was relieved to see some bounce back to the fabric but the cables looked flat. I pinned to pattern measurements. It finally dried and the cables plumped up a little.

I put it out in the cold to soak up fresh air scent.  I was in the process of removing U pins (160) and tweaking the scarf straight when Q, King of the Spice Ferns came over to play.

This pattern is so pretty and easy to remember.

Koigu Handy Hand Warmers

Melinda was admiring my multi pink Koigu hand warmers one day at work …so I knit a pair for her using Koigu I had in my stash.  She was "psyched" and loves them!

It's fun to surprise someone who knows the value of a nice hand knit gift!  This is an easy pattern and well written.

Yarn: Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino
Pattern: One Skein of Koigu Gloves by Unraveling Sophia

This pair came out very neat and tidy with the use of very short circular needles!   I love not having to use double pointed needles. The jewel tone colours are bright with a hint of sheen that do not show in the photo.

What's wrong with this picture?

For testing and color-check I bought one skein of  Debbie Bliss Rialto Chunky.   Rialto Chunky has approximately 66 yards per skein.

What is wrong?

When I buy yarn short on yardage the last thing I expect is to hit a knot not even half way into the skein.  The pattern I am testing requires 13 skeins of this yarn.  I like the yarn, but I want to keep adding yarn to a minimum.
